日本版画界を代表する版画家の1人で銅版画の第一人者です。駒井哲郎に銅版画を学んで以来、油絵から脱し銅版画にはまります。銅版画を含めた全てのものの腐蝕を重ね合わせ、「すべて朽ちないものはない」という思想のもとに、白と黒を基調とする製作を続けています。
